1% for the Planet
1% for the Planet is an international organization whose members contribute at least one percent of their annual sales to environmental causes. It’s an alliance of businesses that understand the necessity of protecting the natural environment.
Science tells us a lot about our environment, which in the past was not visible to the human eye – yet today’s climate is changing at such a rapid pace that we are able to see these changes.
Unfortunately, as a society we are on a path that is not sustainable for survival, let alone enjoyment of Mother Nature’s beauty. In order for future generations to experience what we have been lucky to, we need to take the idea of protecting the environment more seriously.
As a collective, humans can do a lot in a short period of time but if we are divided and consider it to be “someone else’s problem” we will forfeit the power to reverse the damage we have done.
We joined 1% for the Planet because they have a track record of making positive environmental change and many of their members share similar values as Clover. 1% for the Planet walks the walk when it comes to transparency, environmental protection and sustainability. Having their logo on our products and website captures Clover's commitment to sustainability.
Yvon Chouinard is highly respected by Clover and when we started this journey we looked up to the business practices of Patagonia for inspiration on how to be a responsible company and do what’s right from day one. That ultimately led us to this great organization.
Our 1% for the Planet Partner
We’re committed to donating 1% of our sales to Plastic Pollution Coalition. They are a natural fit for Clover because of our commitment to plastic-free products and our mutual determination to reduce plastic use.
Plastic Pollution Coalition is a growing global alliance of more than 1,200 organizations, businesses, and thought leaders in 75 countries working together to impact the staggering statistics above by working toward a world free of plastic pollution and its toxic impact on humans, animals, waterways, the ocean, and the environment.
There is far too much petroleum based plastic in the world and the alternatives are being ignored. Plastic waste does not decompose for 500-1000 years and is toxic to the environment throughout that time, resulting in significant damage to our planet and its inhabitants.
The process alone for making plastic takes an enormous amount of energy and resources that affect our planet in many negative ways. These plastics make their way into our water, food, and harm precious wildlife. Plastic Pollution Coalition is a natural fit for Clover because of our commitment to a plastic free product and their similar determination to reduce plastic use.
Plastic Pollution Coalition is a growing global alliance of more than 1,200 organizations, businesses, and thought leaders in 75 countries working toward a world free of plastic pollution and its toxic impact on humans, animals, waterways, the ocean, and the environment. They envision a world free of plastic pollution in which:
- Individuals embody zero-waste values and have reduced the use of single-use plastic.
- NGOs work together to drive demand for systemic solutions.
- Governments and Businesses enforce regulations, legislation, and practices of a circular economy: Packaging/goods are intentionally designed to be reusable, durable, or useful throughout their existence. (Extended Producer Responsibility from the source).
At Clover, we are a company driven by helping people live a more sustainable life, whether that is with choices related to their own mental and physical health or the health of the planet we are so lucky to inhabit. We believe in a future where people consider their consumption choices and the connection of how what they eat, drink, and use in their daily lives directly impacts the health of others and our environment.
We want a future where companies think about their footprint and the waste they are creating. We want single use plastic and other reckless things humans have developed over the past 100 years to become relics of the past.
Lastly, another hope and goal for Clover is to launch our own sustainability initiative to connect the farmers of our ingredients with education and resources to help them become more self-sufficient and thrive as small business owners. We strive to be a steward of leaving the planet in a better place than how we found it and showing loving kindness every step of the way.
The Clover team is excited to work with 1% for the Planet and our NGO partner Plastic Pollution Coalition, to help donate funds and bring awareness to environmental sustainability. Our products and our commitment to education are in alignment with 1% for the Planet goals and together we believe we can make an impact in our lifetime.
